How to clean your vape — extend your kit's life in 10 minutes

Why clean your vape?

E-liquid residue builds up in your tank, pod, and device contacts over time. This leads to muted flavour, cross-contamination between e-liquids, and occasionally flooding or leaking. A quick clean once a week (or whenever you change flavours) solves all three.

  • Warm water
  • Paper towels or a lint-free cloth
  • Cotton buds
  • A small bowl
  • A toothpick for tight spaces (optional)

Cleaning a pod kit (XROS 5, Xlim, Caliburn, etc.)

  1. Remove the pod from the device. Empty any remaining e-liquid into the bin.
  2. Rinse the empty pod under warm running water for 30–60 seconds. Shake gently.
  3. Stand the pod upright on a paper towel and leave to air dry for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best results).
  4. Wipe the device body with a slightly damp cloth, paying attention to the pod contact pins at the top. Dry thoroughly.
  5. Use a cotton bud to clean inside the mouthpiece.
  6. Reinsert only when the pod is completely dry.

Cleaning a tank-style vape (SMOK RPM 5, Vaporesso Gen, etc.)

  1. Remove the tank from the mod. Disassemble it — top cap, glass, base, and coil.
  2. Remove the coil and set aside (you can't clean a coil; if it tastes off, replace it).
  3. Rinse all non-electrical parts under warm water. For stubborn residue, a 15-minute soak in warm water works well.
  4. Dry every component with a lint-free cloth, then leave on a paper towel to air dry fully.
  5. Reassemble only when completely dry and fit a new or existing primed coil.
  6. Wipe down the mod with a damp cloth. Use a cotton bud to clean the 510 connector.

Battery contacts and pod connectors corrode over time from e-liquid. Wipe them with a dry cotton bud every week. If you spot corrosion (white or green residue), a cotton bud very lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol works well — let it dry completely before using the device.


  • Pod kit: every 1–2 weeks, or whenever you change flavour
  • Tank-style kit: whenever you change coils
  • Device body and contacts: once a week
